We had a great experience with the K’dongding cooking class. At K’dongding you will not only improve your Indonesian cooking skills, but you will also learn a lot about the beautiful Balinese culture. We were picked up in the morning at 8:30 in Ubud and brought to a traditional Balinese market. Our guide Nyoman told us a lot about all the food and customs of the market. After that we went to the house compound of the K’dongding family where they live traditionally with all 43 family members. Nyoman showed us around and after that we started cooking in the beautiful cooking class studio. Nyoman took the time to explain everything very carefully. We had our own cooking station and after the explanation we could perform all steps ourselves. We made some delicious traditional Balinese dishes and after that we had lunch with Nyoman and Wayan, who is the head of the family. At 14:00 we were brought back to the hotel. For us this was a little late, the class could have been somewhat shorter. But besides this, we had a truly amazing experience. We learned a lot and enjoyed the enthousiasm with which the instructors tell and teach you about their heritage. Also a great place for vegetarians and vegans! By Iris B

Jukut Urab, a Favorite Menu of Balinese People

This jukut urab offers a good flavor and is easy to prepare. It is called jukut urab because the spices are mixed together with vegetable before serving, not during the cooking.
